Affordable Care Act prep means new jobs for Health Alliance

Urbana-based Health Alliance said it will add around 200 jobs in Central Illinois in preparation for the Affordable Care Act.

The comments come on the heels of the insurance company expanding into Nebraska and Washington.

Health Alliance Spokesperson Kelli Anderson said around 75 positions have already been added and that most of the new jobs will require require nursing or social work backgrounds.  She said that the rest of the positions will be administrative and that the company's focus is on integrated care and coordinating the medical and social services of its members.

Meanwhile, Health Alliance President and CEO Jeff Ingrum said preparing for the Affordable Care Act is both an opportunity for growth and a challenge.

Ingrum made the comments Thursday on A Penny For Your Thoughts on WDWS.
