C-U, Danville Elks sponsor orthopedic assessments for children

URBANA — Two local Elks lodges will sponsor free orthopedic assessments for kids Sept. 17 in Urbana.

The exams will be available at Dr. James McKechnie's office by appointment only from 8:30-10:30 a.m., and referrals from other physicians aren't required.

The doctor is at Presence Covenant Medical Center's medical office building at 1405 W. Park St., Suite 306, Urbana.

The exams are being sponsored by the Champaign-Urbana Elks 2497 and Danville Elks 332 lodges in cooperation with the Illinois Elks Children's Care Corp.

To make an appointment, call 1-800-272-0074 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Elks organization has been working with physically challenged children since 1928 and sponsors 17 clinic sites in Illinois.

The organization encourages the clinic for having a child reviewed for bone and joint development, or examined for feet pointing out or in, back curvature and complaints of back, knee, leg or ankle pain.

All diagnostic services at this clinic are fee, and some financial assistance for children needing treatment or specialty equipment for families that can't afford it is available, according to the Elks.
