DANVILLE — Area children and their families are invited to the 2013 "Back to School" children's health, safety and activity fair on Sept. 7.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Village Mall, 2917 N. Vermilion St.
More than 40 local experts will provide information on various children's health topics, safety issues and ways to stay active. Parents can also get information on local resources in the Danville area.
Parents should start at the registration table to receive children's tickets for prizes that will be given away throughout the day, put their name in a drawing and receive a Presence Health bag to carry the giveaways from participating booths. Also, parents who complete a very short survey for the HALO Project will have a chance to win one of four $50 grocery cards.
The Smiling Faces Dental Program, staffed by area dentists who are volunteering their time, will be located close to center court. Children who are accompanied by their parent/guardian can receive a free dental screening by area dentists, and receive a goody bag with oral hygiene products.
They also will be educated on brushing, flossing, soft drink tooth decay, fluoride and sealants.
The screening satisfies the school requirement for kindergarten, second- and sixth-grade students, and paperwork will be given to the parent at the time of the screening.
Robinson Chiropractic will check children for scoliosis with their computerized scan of the spine.
Parents can have their child's fingerprints, photo and other information taken through the Olive Branch Lodge No. 38's child identification program, and that information will be put on a disc for them.
Children can put together a first-aid kit and tour a firetruck. They can also participate in marble painting, putt-putt golf, story time, workout activities, table games, cornhole, jump roping and other activities.
Children can look for the 7-foot Stuffee, who unzips his tummy to show how his insides work.
