Douglas, Coles sheriffs set to collect weapons, ammunition

Anyone looking for a safe way to dispose of unwanted weapons or ammunition can turn them in at the Douglas and Coles County sheriff's offices next month. Rifles, pistols, shotguns or muzzle loaders of any type or condition will be accepted.

Ammunition and reloading components will also be accepted. Anyone who turns in ammo will get a free gun lock while supplies last.

They may be turned in from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 2 to 6 at the Douglas County sheriff's office, 920 S. Washington St., Tuscola, and the Coles County sheriff's office, 701 S. Seventh St., Charleston.
