NAMI offers training for caregivers

RANTOUL — A free six-week education series for parents and others caring for children under 18 who have mental illness conditions is being offered by the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

The classes will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. starting Oct. 11 at the Community Service Center, 520 E. Wabash Ave., Rantoul.

The series will cover conditions such as anxiety, bipolar, oppositional defiant and attention deficit hyperactivity disorders and schizophrenia. Other topics will include coping skills such as handling a crisis, medications, listening and communication techniques, problem-solving skills and record-keeping, according to NAMI.

Trained NAMI family member volunteers teach the classes.
