Prairie Center plans Walk for Recovery

URBANA — The Prairie Center, a not-for-profit substance abuse treatment center based in Urbana, is seeking supporters and participants for its fourth annual Walk for Recovery.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 21 at Champaign's Hessel Park, with registration starting at 10 a.m.

The walk is intended to raise awareness about drug and alcohol addiction as a public health concern, to overcome stigma and show solidarity and the positive side of recovery, the organization says.

The center also hopes to raise money through the event for its prevention, advocacy and recovery support services.

Contributors can sponsor participants or make a general donation, the organization says. Participants can register as an individual or team, and can choose how far they walk.

Following the walk, there will be individual testimonials and a raffle featuring several prizes, among them a used car. Complimentary refreshments will be served.
