Nobody reported hurt in fire in Savoy

SAVOY — Nobody was reported hurt in an apartment fire Wednesday night at Winfield Village in Savoy.

According to a fire department report, Savoy firefighters were called to a multifamily apartment building at 334 W. Paddock Drive at 7:45 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, they found smoke showing from an apartment.

Nobody was at home at the time of the fire.

According to the report, the fire is believed to have started when a water heater caught fire. The fire then began to spread to some materials stored very close to the water heater.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 7:55 p.m. and left the scene by 9:15 p.m.

Total damage to the apartment was estimated at less than $5,000.
