CHAMPAIGN - An Urbana man arrested Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman he knew is being held in the Champaign County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.
Assistant State’s Attorney Matt Banach said Champaign police were called to Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana about 7:30 p.m. Thursday after a 23-year-old woman went there seeking treatment.
She told police that she and Scott A. Vanscoyoc, 33, who listed an address in the 500 block of Poplar Street, Urbana, were in the early stages of a dating relationship and agreed to meet at a motel on West Bloomington Road in Champaign.
According to the report, Banach said, “As soon as she walked in, he slapped her, grabbed her by the back of the neck and threw her on the bed.”
He then allegedly choked her and sexually assaulted her despite her protests. She was able to get into the bathroom where he followed her and allegedly sexually assaulted her a second time, Banach said.
After Vanscoyoc left the room, the woman called a friend who took her to the hospital. Banach said police noted bruising on her neck.
Police located Vanscoyoc at his home on Polar Street Friday and arrested him.
Judge Chase Leonhard set bond Saturday at $100,000 and ordered him to be back in court Tuesday.
The state’s attorney’s office will decide what charges to file on Tuesday.
