Urbana street robbery investigated

URBANA — Urbana police are looking for a man who robbed a couple in east Urbana Saturday night.

Sgt. Cory Koker said around 7:30 p.m., an unknown number of men approached a man and a woman in the 1100 block of South Lierman Avenue. One of the men in the group displayed a handgun and took an undisclosed amount of cash from the man.

The victims left in a car and shortly thereafter flagged down a sheriff’s deputy on patrol.
Since the robbery occurred inside the city limits, Urbana police responded.

Koker said officers stopped several individuals in the area but found no one who fit the description of the person with the gun.

The couple was not physically injured, he said.
