Work planned on I-74 near Urbana

PARIS — Traffic on about a mile of Interstate 74 at Urbana will be reduced to one lane in each direction from September to November, the Illinois Department of Transportation reports.

Weather permitting, work is scheduled to begin Sept. 3 on installation of cable guardrail on I-74 from U.S. 45 to High Cross Road in Champaign County.

The project includes earthwork, adjustments to the existing drainage system and installation of a high tension cable guardrail system in the median.

Traffic on I-74 will be reduced to one lane in each direction at locations where work is ongoing with the left hand lane being closed during daytime hours.

The anticipated completion date is November, weather permitting. The contractor for the $2.1 million work is Cross Construction.

Motorists are advised to slow down and drive carefully through this and all work zones.
