The official election process got underway Monday for candidates affiliated with established political parties who want to appear on the March primary ballot in Illinois.
Candidates began to circulate their nominating petitions for signatures Monday. Other paperwork is also available to go along with the nominating petitions.
On the state level, Illinois Senator Dick Durbin is up for election. All statewide offices including the Governor will appear on the ballot next year. Also, one-third of the Illinois Senate and all of the state House members are up for election.
Countywide offices on the ballot are: Clerk, Treasurer, Sheriff and Assessor. Also, in Champaign County, one county board member from each of the eleven districts is up for election.
Candidates can file their nominating petitions between Nov. 25 and Dec. 2. The primary will be held on Mar. 18.
