Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

URBANA — An Urbana man wanted by police for questioning on a traffic offense was arrested Sunday on drug-related charges after police found almost a pound of suspected cannabis in his car.

Urbana police Sgt. Dan Morgan said on Sunday night an officer stopped Alex Lee Washington, 37, who listed an address in the 2300 block of Rainbow View, for an alleged equipment violation while he was driving in the 1500 block of North Lincoln Avenue in Urbana.

The officer found that Washington was driving on a revoked license and was wanted for questioning for an alleged traffic offense that happened July 20.

After Washington was arrested for driving on a revoked license, police searched his car and found three bags of cannabis, weighing a total of just over 13 ounces (379 grams).

They also found scales and other packaging materials in the car, Morgan said.

He was charged Tuesday with possession with intent to deliver cannabis, a felony, and misdemeanor driving under revocation.
