Vehicles burglarized in Rantoul impound lot

RANTOUL — Rantoul police are looking for the people responsible for breaking into several vehicles at an impound lot over the weekend.

Sgt. Justin Bouse said that on Sunday evening the owner of Joe's Towing found 21 vehicles broken into at his business at 600 Liberty Drive.

The burglars broke through a wooden fence to get into the secured lot. Once inside, they got into the vehicles by breaking windows or just opening doors. Bouse said they stole car stereos and miscellaneous items in the vehicles. The break-in occurred between 2:30 and 8 a.m. on Sunday.

Bouse said there were all types of vehicles in the lot, from wrecked cars to vehicles seized as part of police investigations.

Anyone with information on the burglaries is asked to call Rantoul police at 217-892-2103 or Crimestoppers at 217-373-8477.

Information may also be sent anonymously online at http://www.373tips.com or by cellphone text message by sending CCTIP plus the information to CRIMES (274637).
