Danville man arrested in murder

DANVILLE — Police have arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with the April murder of a 26-year-old man in Danville.

Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said that Robert L. Butler of Danville was arrested by Danville police at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the area of English and Franklin streets in connection with the April 13 murder of Jamal Sampson.

"A warrant issued for three counts of first-degree murder was obtained by police and Mr. Butler was taken into custody without incident," Thomason said in a news release Thursday morning. The warrant has no bond.

On April 13, Danville police were called to a residence in the 1500 block of East Fairchild around 5 a.m. and found Sampson lying on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Butler remains in custody at the Public Safety Building.
