CHAMPAIGN — Police are trying to determine whether two recent burglaries at a Champaign store were related.
According to a Champaign police, security videos showed two men forcing their way into the Rural King store, 913 W. Marketview Drive, Champaign, at 3:45 a.m. on Aug. 25.
The men forcibly removed a gun from a gun case and took it out of the store.
Police said both men were wearing masks over their faces. One man was wearing a multi-colored backpack, and the other man was carrying a dark colored bag with a red strap.
Then, at 2:14 a.m. Tuesday, two men wearing masks over their faces broke into the Rural King Store, took 23 handguns and left the store.
"Either these two incidents were related, or it was an extreme coincidence," said Champaign police Lt. Robert Rea on Thursday evening. "But we don't have enough evidence at this point to determine whether the two incidents were related."
Police did not have information on the description of the burglars on Thursday night.
