UPDATED: 'Possible homicide' under investigation in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN — A 30-year-old Champaign woman was found dead in her home Friday afternoon, and police are calling it a possible homicide.

Sheena R. Williams was found unresponsive at her residence, 105 E. Roper St., C, after police were dispatched around 12:30 p.m. to check her welfare. She was pronounced dead at 1:30 p.m.

Police initially called it a "suspicious" death, and Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said Friday evening that the incident is being investigated as a possible homicide.

The coroner did not release the manner of death. An autopsy will be performed and an inquest may be held at a later date.

On Friday, police were interviewing people in the area and looking for evidence which may provide more information, said police spokeswoman Rene Dunn. Williams' family was also on the scene Friday afternoon.
