Work will close Seminary Street in Danville

DANVILLE — Contractors will continue Monday with improvements to North Vermilion Street that will require the closing of Seminary Street at its intersection with Vermilion.

Crews will be installing new concrete crosswalks on both Seminary and Vermilion streets at that intersection. During the work, Vermilion will be reduced to two lanes, and the closure will last until Sept. 14. This work is part of the first phase of the Vermilion Street improvement project.

The first phase, which included new ramps at intersections, driveway removals, gutter repairs and storm sewer repairs, will be finished next week. The second phase includes resurfacing Vermilion Street from Fairchild Street to Harrison Street with new asphalt and pavement striping, and that phase is scheduled to start in early October.

City officials encourage drivers to move cautiously through the work zones and watch for slow-moving equipment and construction workers.

For more information, call the city of Danville's engineering department at 431-2321.
