Fire hits neighboring homes in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN — Two neighboring homes were badly damaged in a two-alarm fire early Sunday in west Champaign.

Firefighters were called to 1521 W. Church St. at 3:25 a.m. Sunday and found that home and the one next door at 1519 W. Church on fire.

All occupants of both houses got out uninjured, except for two family pets that died.

One firefighter was treated at the scene for exhaustion.

The fire was struck at 6:20 a.m.

No cause or damage estimate had been established at midday Sunday.
