Missing Effingham County girl was first case for Champaign County search team

A group of local volunteers had their first official case this week when they helped search for a missing child in Effingham County.

Champaign County Emergency Management Agency Director John Dwyer said 10 volunteers from the Champaign County Search and Rescue Team were ready to go after the Effingham County Sheriff's Office requested help in searching for seven year-old Willow Long.

Dwyer said while he wishes the outcome of the search was different, the volunteers' training proved successful in helping them participate in the search efficiently.

Dwyer added that around one-third of the volunteers on the local search and rescue team were able to go down to Effingham County and help.  He said he couldn't ask for anything better from such a good response.

Dwyer added that this was the second time the search and rescue team was ready to go with such short notice since July, but the team didn't end up going out on a case at that time.
