Hale Park baseball diamond to be upgraded

PHILO — An anonymous donor is putting up the money to upgrade the Hale Park baseball diamond.

Rick Gallivan of Gallivan's Drafting and Design in Philo this week presented plans for an athletic park grandstand to the village board. The grandstand has been modeled after one in Canton.

Two dugouts, two concrete slabs, a treated deck with a roof and some asphalt are slated to be demolished from the North Harrison Street park. Gallivan said two light poles will need to be relocated. An existing scorer's table will be moved to Hazen Park. A 6-inch-diameter maple tree will also need to be relocated.

The aluminum bleachers that will be added will have a seating capacity of about 250 and will have backrests. Manufactured by a Florida company, they will have 3-foot aisles and a 14-inch rise. There will be six handicap-accessible spaces in the bleachers. "The bleachers are going to be closed so trash is limited," Gallivan said.
