Improved AMBUCS Park playground to be dedicated Saturday

The Urbana Park District will hold a dedication ceremony Saturday for its new and improved accessible playground.

The park district's Executive Director Vicki Mayes said the AMBUCS Park playground is specifically designed to enhance the ability of someone with physical or developmental disabilities to play in an interactive environment with others.

She said the playground is highly accessible, with lowered equipment, wheelchair ramps and even items to enhance sensory skills.

Mayes added that in the future, the park district hopes to improve accessibility at AMBUCS Park by adding more pathways and improving the picnic area so grills can be accessible.

But, she said the most important thing is to give everyone a chance to have fun and grow together.

Saturday's dedication ceremony starts at 11 a.m. at AMBUCS Park on East University Avenue in Urbana.
