Missing Bement man found safe in Minnesota

MONTICELLO — A Bement man who had been reported missing a little over two weeks ago has been found safe in Minnesota.

Chief Deputy Mark Huckstep of the Piatt County sheriff's office said Kirk Becker, 52, suffers from a mental disability and lives alone. He was last seen in Monticello on Aug 23.

Huckstep said Becker was located about 11:45 a.m. Friday in Rochester, Minn.

Rochester police received a complaint of a smoldering fire near a bicycle path. They found Becker with his bicycle and a few belongings. The officer reported that Becker appeared to be in good health and told him that he had traveled to Minnesota from Bement on his bicycle and had been getting meals at the Rochester Salvation Army. He told the officer he was planning to go to the St. Paul Salvation Army about 80 miles from Rochester.

Huckstep said Becker's family was told that he's been located in good health.
