Parkland to celebrate fine arts addition

CHAMPAIGN — Parkland College will celebrate the construction of its new Fine and Applied Arts addition with a special event on Wednesday, Sept. 18.

It will be from 4 to 7 p.m. in the college's C4 parking lot, adjacent to the construction site.

The event will feature music by the college's In Your Ear Band jazz ensemble and college radio station WPCD-FM; ceramic sculpture demonstrations by Parkland faculty; and remarks by Parkland administrators. Attendees will be able to sign a beam that will be relocated into one of the new facilities during construction.

Refreshments will be provided. The event is being held in place of a groundbreaking celebration.

The Fine and Applied Arts addition is part of Parkland's campus master plan and consists of a "Black Box" performing arts addition and a visual arts educational classroom addition.

The additions will be located on the west side of campus, adjacent to the existing theater. Construction is expected to wrap up in late summer 2014.
