Champaign man sent to prison for burglary plea

URBANA — A Champaign man who admitted he broke into a pickup truck in north Champaign in April has been sentenced to 5-1/2 years in prison.

Jeremy R. Larson, 27, of the 1300 block of Comanche Drive, pleaded guilty in Champaign County Circuit Court in July to a single count of burglary, admitting that on April 13 he broke into a truck near Kohl's and stole a woman's cellphone.

Assistant State's Attorney Stephanie Weber said Champaign police were watching Larson because he was a suspect in other vehicle burglaries.

When the alarm in the woman's pickup sounded, Larson got back in his own vehicle and took off. Police stopped him nearby and found the victim's cellphone.

Judge Tom Difanis sentenced Larson, who had prior convictions for domestic battery, intimidation, retail theft, endangering the health of a child and harassment by electronic means.
