DACC events mark adult education week

DANVILLE — Danville Area Community College is holding a week of special events to mark National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, which runs Monday through Friday.

Here are a list of activities:

— Today: "Hot Off the Presses" day. The Adult Basic Education Department is baking and giving away fresh Otis Spunkmeyer cookies, and Commercial-News Publisher Beverly Joyce is speaking to an adult basic education class at 10:15 a.m. about life-skill information that can be found in the daily newspaper.

— Tuesday: Literacy recognition and book giveaway. Literacy staff will be distributing free children's books to participants in the program.

— Wednesday: Family Day. Students are encouraged to invite their families to campus. Also, Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer will deliver a proclamation to department officials at 9:15 a.m. in Vermilion Hall, Room 306.

— Thursday: Special Treats Day.

— Friday: Fun Day. Families are invited back on campus.

DACC's Adult Basic Education Department offers GED Review, English as a second language, certified nursing assistant, and the reader's route to literacy and tutoring programs.
