Rantoul man charged with home invasion

URBANA — A Rantoul man is being held at the Champaign County Jail after police arrested him in connection with a home invasion over the weekend.

Douglas Williams, 22, who listed an address in Rantoul, was charged Monday with felony home invasion.

Williams' next court appearance was set for Nov. 12.

According to a police report, Rantoul police were called to a home in the 400 block of North Penfield Street at 2:39 p.m. Friday on a report of a domestic dispute between a woman and her former boyfriend.

When police arrived, the woman reported that Williams had forced his way into her home, hit her with his hand and then run away. Nothing was reported taken.

The woman received minor injuries, according to the report, but did not require hospitalization.

After police searched the area, they found Williams walking in the 300 block of West Grove Street at 3:20 p.m. and attempted to stop him.

Williams ran east on Grove Street and then entered an apartment in the 300 block of West Belle Avenue.

Police forced entry into the apartment, found Williams hiding under a bed and arrested him.
