Urbana man facing multiple charges
URBANA — Police arrested an Urbana man over the weekend who allegedly drove away from a Rantoul gas station in a stolen truck without paying for gas.
Matthew Stroh, 24, who listed an address in the 700 block of Colorado Avenue, was charged Monday with one count of receiving or possessing a stolen vehicle, one count of burglary, one count of aggravated driving under the influence with a license suspended or revoked and one count of aggravated fleeing.
Stroh is being held at the Champaign County Jail on $25,000 bond.
His next court appearance was set for Nov. 12.
According to a Rantoul police report, police were called to the Casey's General Store, 300 S. Century Blvd., at 1 a.m. Sunday after receiving a report of a man putting gasoline in a truck and then driving off without paying for it.
Police followed the truck as it headed south on Century Boulevard, which becomes County Road 1600 E south of Rantoul, and tried to stop it.
The driver of the truck, identified as Stroh, stopped the truck about a half-mile south of County Road 2600 N, left the truck and was arrested.
The report said that police detected a strong odor of alcohol on Stroh's breath as they arrested him.
Police said the truck Stroh was driving had been stolen in Ludlow, but the truck's owner didn't know the truck had been stolen until being notified by police.
The report said Stroh's driver's license had been revoked.
