VA breast cancer event scheduled

DANVILLE — The Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System will host the second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and Candle Lighting Ceremony on Oct. 1 in conjunction with National Breast Cancer Awareness month.

The event, which also is sponsored by the VA Employee Association and Federal Women's Program, is open to the public.

It will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the medical center, 1900 E. Main St., Danville. Signs will be placed at the main drive to direct and assist with parking.

Information about breast cancer awareness, risk factors, disease, early detection and support will be available event. Also, the New Horizon's Breast Cancer Support Group will have an informational booth.

Monetary donations will be accepted the day of the walk with 75 percent of all donations going to New Horizon's Support Group and 25 percent going to the Federal Women's Program to sponsor future events.

The Federal Woman's Program offers a wide variety of services to assist female veterans with their physical and emotional needs.
