Drive to collect diapers for needy families

DANVILLE — State Sen. Mike Frerichs, Danville Township Supervisor Michael West and Danville Highway Commissioner A.J. Wright are sponsoring the "Diapers for Dignity" campaign this weekend.

The campaign aims to raise awareness about the diaper need among low-income families in Vermilion County, and collect diapers and monetary donations to buy them.

A collection will be held at Palace Park, in the 100 block of Vermilion Street, during Downtown Danville Inc.'s Taste of Downtown Danville, which runs Friday through Sunday. People can drop off diapers or training pants of any size or monetary donations.

Frerich, D-Champaign, said his staff will continue to collect donations at his office, on the first floor of 28 W. North Street, through Oct. 15. The office is open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

All donations will benefit The Diaper Bank of Vermilion County, a community-based effort that plans to collect and distribute diapers to those who need them.
