Police say man not hit by a train after all

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign police say that a man found near some railroad tracks in downtown Champaign wasn’t hit by a train after all.

Police originally received a report of a person hit by a southbound train somewhere in the vicinity of the Washington Street viaduct at 7:10 p.m. Thursday.

Emergency responders found a man in a parking lot behind the old train station.

Police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said on Thursday evening that it doesn’t appear the man was hit by a train.

Dunn said the man was by the train tracks and appeared to be disoriented, but police do not believe he was hit by the train.

No information was available on the man's condition.
