UI gets federal money for rail research

The University of Illinois is getting a financial boost to study rail transportation and engineering.

The school's National University Rail Center will receive $1.4 million from the Department of Transportation.

The center will use the money to expand research in the areas of infrastructure and vehicle engineering, safety and risk management, and finance and policy, among other areas.
