Updated: Both drivers ticketed in Paxton collision

PAXTON — Both drivers were ticketed after a collision in Paxton Thursday involving a school bus and a semitrailer truck.

No injuries were reported in the accident, which occurred at 6:55 a.m. at the intersection of Pells Street and Stockholm Road on Paxton's east edge.

District 21 Illinois State Police said in a news release that a Paxton-Buckley-Loda school bus was northbound on Stockholm Road when the bus stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of Pells Street.

The bus driver, Rodney L. Riblet, 52, of Paxton, told police he did not see the truck traveling west on Pells Street, and the bus then entered the intersection, turning left into the path of the semi. The bus was hit in the rear by the semi, a 1994 Peterbilt driven by John Paul Lofton, 40, of Fennville, Mich.

Riblet was ticketed for failure to yield; Lofton was ticketed for no log book.

PBL school district Superintendent Cliff McClure said four PBL students were riding the bus. Three were released to their parents, while the other went on to school, McClure said.

State police said the students ranged in age from 8 to 16. There was also one adult monitor on the bus.
