King committee accepting scholarship applications

DANVILLE — The Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee is now accepting applications for its annual scholarship.

To be eligible for the $4,000 scholarship, you must be a 2014 high school graduating senior who plans to pursue his or her education at an institution of higher learning. Applications are available at churches and high schools in Danville and at the city's human relations department at city hall, 17 W. Main St., Danville.

The selection of the scholarship recipient by the MLK committee is not based on any racial, religious, ethnic or cultural affiliation. Therefore, students who meet the criteria listed in the scholarship application are encouraged to apply.

All scholarship applications must be submitted to the city's human relations department by 4:30 p.m. Dec. 6. The recipient will be announced at the MLK Celebration Banquet in January.

For more information, call Committee Chairman Mary Thompson at 442-7917 or Sandra Houston at 431-2280.
