Tips sought in burglary at Champaign frat house

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign County Crimestoppers is asking the public's help in solving a burglary last month at a Champaign fraternity house.

According to a police report, a man broke into the Phi Kappa Delta fraternity, 1106 S. Third St., C, about 1 a.m. Sept. 10.

Security camera footage showed the man walking around the main floor, as well as the upper floors of the house, and trying to enter various rooms.

When one resident woke up later that morning, he realized somebody had entered his room while he was sleeping and stolen some items, including some fraternity paddles and cash from his wallet.

The burglar also stole the fraternity's flag from the wall on the main floor.

Anyone with information is asked to call Champaign County Crimestoppers at 373-8477. Information may also be left anonymously online at http://www.373tips.com or by cellphone text message by sending CCTIP plus the information to CRIMES (274637).

Crimestoppers will pay a reward if the information leads to an arrest. Cash rewards are also paid for information on other felony crimes or fugitives.

He stole fraternity paddles and their fraternity flag?  Obviously a fraternity prank, the same fraternity pranks that have been going on for generations.  And for the purportedly heisted cash - I'm betting the victim spent more at the bars the night before than he remembers.  This is news WHY?

Because theft is theft dude. No matter if someone thinks its a prank or not.

Obviously you're not a fraternity member.

A little hint: in frat pranks, the "stuff" is almost always returned, either willingly or by retrieving it. Many times it's taken by members of different chapters. Just a little info to keep in your back pocket so the next time you don't have to comment without that knowledge. You're welcome.

I'm sure the police and the states attorney will really care about what fraternity culture dictates they should do if they find this young man.

Huh. A Tuesday night prior to 1 am. Huh. Phi Kappa Delta...whatever. Must be a Wus House, not Animal House. Frat bros' (should) know with whom they share their domicile with, otherwise, some major D-Day head thumpin' involved. Heck, shoulda' gone downstairs to bust open the Pepsi Machine that is not filled with Pepsi Co. products, but expensive Import beers and all that cash. 'Gee, I got the House Flag.' Yeah, go ahead and hang it off your balcony...guess what will happen. Ah...the good ol' days, before knifings...
