Local doctor starts support groups for those facing amputation

A local doctor is trying to drum up support to help those who have lost or are at risk of losing a limb.

Carle Doctor Michael Neuwirth is teaming up with area hospitals to form a local chapter of the non-profit group "Save a Leg Save a Life."

Neuworth said the group will look to get the word out to both doctors and the public about medical care that can cut down on the amount of amputations.

Also a part of this effort, Neuworth said, is a support group for those who have already lost a limb.

The group is having a kickoff event on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Biaggi's on Neil Street in Champaign.
