Sidney to reimburse fire district for some expenses

SIDNEY — The village board has approved an agreement with the Sidney Fire Protection District.

Under the contract signed this week, the village will reimburse the fire department $5,000 per year for any "non-capital" expenses the Emergency Services Disaster Agency has. Examples given in the agreement include computers, mobile radios, cellphones and miscellaneous administrative expenses.

There is currently about $7,700 in the ESDA account.

ESDA officials are planning to buy three two-way radios at a cost of about $480 each and a handheld radio that would cost about $1,200 used. In addition, the agency plans to have its control boards made compatible with narrow-band radios at a cost of $2,500 each.

ESDA also plans to move a storm siren at Witt Park to a location near the Premier Cooperative grain elevator. ESDA acquired the siren free of charge from Champaign about six years ago but has never been able to use it because it requires three-phase electricity that isn't available at the park; a single-phase electricity siren will be moved to the park.
