URBANA — Police arrested a homeless woman for bank robbery within six minutes of the holdup Wednesday afternoon.
Urbana police Lt. Rich Surles said police responded to a at 4:02 p.m. holdup alarm at Central Illinois Bank, 1514 N. Cunningham Ave., where a woman wearing sunglasses, a purple shirt and gray sweatpants walked to the teller windows at the east end of the bank.
Once there, the woman presented a bag. She told the staff that she had a bomb in the bag and to give her money.
“She claimed she had a bomb in her bag,” said Surles.
After the staff gave money to the woman, she walked out of the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.
There were at least four people in the bank and the woman, later identified at Kate Lourraine Hubble, 35, was arrested as she ran east on Perkins Road.
According to an Urbana police report, bank employees provided METCAD with a description of the robber.
Another officer, Lt. Bob Fitzgerald, said there were several officers in the area who quickly spotted Hubble.
Urbana police and Champaign County deputies tried to stop the woman, who continued to run before she was captured. She was arrested at 4:08 p.m.
Surles said Hubble was taken back to the bank, where she was identified.
According to police, evidence recovered from the area of the chase included sunglasses, a purple shirt, gray sweatpants and money in a bag.
No one was injured.

This marks the second time this month that a woman has been arrested for a bank robbery in Urbana.
Alicia Marie Smith, 18, who listed an address in the 2400 block of East Elm Street, Urbana, turned herself in to police on Friday for aggravated robbery following a robbery at Heartland Bank & Trust Co., 1812 Philo Road, at 3:05 p.m. Thursday.
