You still have an opportunity to attend fire safety demonstrations in our area this weekend as a part of Fire Prevention Week.

The Champaign Fire Department is hosting an open house on Saturday, focused on cooking safety, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Champaign Public Library.

And the Tolono Fire Protection District will host its second annual Fire Prevention Festival Saturday.  The event will feature a home fire sprinkler demonstration.  In the demo, two furnished rooms will be set on fire.  One will have a sprinkler system, and one will not, so people can see how effective sprinklers can be in controlling a fire.

The Fire Prevention Festival is Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Unity West Elementary School in Tolono.

The theme for this year's Fire Prevention Week is preventing kitchen fires.  The National Fire Protection Agency lists cooking as the top cause of homes fires and home fire injuries nationwide.
