Neighborhood Watch to start in Ludlow

LUDLOW — Plans to start a Neighborhood Watch program in Ludlow will proceed.

There were enough people at a recent meeting to warrant startup of Neighborhood Watch in the Champaign County community, said Randy Alesia, a member of the Ludlow Village Board who is chairing Neighborhood Watch.

He told the village board this week that 18 people attended the first meeting.

"It was an organizational meeting ... to see what kind of response we got back from the residents of the community," Alesia said.

He said he was pleased with the turnout and hopes more people will show up for the next meeting, which is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Ludlow Community Center.

"Residents were saying they were going to bring other residents and tell their neighbors," Alesia said.

The community has been hit with several recent burglaries, but Alesia said village police have been able to make arrests within 24 hours.

Neighborhood Watch organizers want to make the community even safer.
