Man jailed after dispute

URBANA — A Champaign man was being held on $200,000 bond this week after he allegedly shot at a man with whom he had a bar dispute earlier in the night.

Andre Terrell Winters, who listed an address at 1200 block of Sangamon Drive, Champaign, was arraigned Tuesday on counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, armed violence and for being an armed habitual criminal.

He was arrested Saturday after allegedly firing at least three shots early in the morning in the 2600 block of East High Street in Urbana, according to Champaign County sheriff's Lt. Curt Apperson.

Apperson said sheriff's deputies responded around 2:30 a.m. Saturday to a report of a prowler. When officers arrived, they found that shots had been fired at the man who had been reported as the prowler.

The man was not injured. Upon further investigation, officers identified the shooter as Winters and arrested him later on Saturday, Apperson said.
