Nuisance home demolished in Philo

PHILO — The house on a nuisance property in the 100 block of McKinley Circle has been demolished.

The concrete slab from a maintenance shed still needs to be removed, and grass is being planted.

The Champaign County Circuit Court declared the property abandoned in April, saying that its water bills had been unpaid for two or more years, the owners did not occupy the property and that it contained a "dangerous or unsafe" building.

The court issued a judicial deed to the village in July after none of the five property owners disputed it within the allotted 30 days.

Village Attorney Paul Hendren this week suggested starting the process of soliciting bids for the property.

"You're not obliged to take any bid," Hendren reminded village trustees.
