Woman injured in I-74 collision

RURAL DANVILLE — Illinois State police are investigating a collision between a semitrailer-truck and car that injured a 50-year-old woman Thursday morning.

Christi D. Kleiss, the driver of the car, was listed in fair condition at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, a spokeswoman said later that afternoon.

The accident occurred at 10:17 a.m. on Interstate 74 near Mile Post 209.5, which is near the Martin Luther King Drive exit.

According to a report, Kleiss was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu east on the interstate when it was rear-ended by a 2005 Kenworth semi, driven by 33-year-old Kyle D. Smith.

The report said that upon impact, Kleiss steered to the right and was hit by the semi's trailer. Her car veered off the road to the right, spun into a ditch and then came to rest in some trees.

Smith wasn't injured, the report said. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

The report did not say whether any tickets were issued.
