Paris man injured in crash in rural Newman

RURAL NEWMAN — A Paris man was injured in a crash between a tractor and a semitrailer truck Monday morning in rural Newman.

According to a state police report, Cory F. Williamson, 27, who listed an address in Paris, was driving a John Deere tractor north on Illinois 49 when he attempted to turn left onto County Road 1250 N at 10:50 a.m. Monday.

Meanwhile, John A. King, 74, who listed an address in Philo, was also traveling north on Illinois 49 in a semitrailer truck and was attempting to pass the tractor, which had already started its left-hand turn.

The semitrailer then sideswiped the tractor, causing what police described as heavy damage.

Both vehicles landed west of Illinois 49 in separate fields.

Williamson, who was wearing a seat belt, was airlifted to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, which had no information on his condition on Monday evening.

King, who was also wearing a seat belt, refused medical treatment.

No tickets had been issued on Monday evening. The state police are continuing to investigate the crash.
