Updated: farm semi driver ticketed after collision with school bus

The driver of a farm semi truck has been ticketed for improper passing after the vehicle collided with a school bus in Champaign County on Monday.

Villa Grove School Superintendent Mary Ann Manos said two high school students and a driver were on the bus at the time of the collision, which occurred at 7:50 Monday morning at County Roads 200 North and 1200 East.  Manos said one of the students was taken to a hospital for treatment of cuts. The parents were notified and were united with the student.  Manos said the other student and driver weren't hurt.

The Champaign County Sheriff's Office said the bus and semi were each traveling west on County Road 200 North.  As the school bus turned left into a driveway, the semi passed the bus on the left and hit the side of the vehicle.  A replacement bus was sent out to finish picking up students on the route.
