Man jailed over stolen truck also faces sex charge

URBANA — An Urbana man already in police custody for allegedly stealing a truck while drunk has been charged with another offense.

On Tuesday, the Champaign County state's attorney's office filed a single count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child against Matthew Stroh, 24, who listed an address in the 700 block of Colorado Avenue.

Urbana police Sgt. Dan Morgan said Stroh allegedly fondled a girl under the age of 13 in his home in Urbana on one occasion. The act allegedly occurred in late July but wasn't reported to police for a couple of weeks. Morgan said the girl told a friend, who told her mother, and that girl's mother contacted the victim's mother, who then contacted police. Morgan said the alleged victim was interviewed at the Child Advocacy Center in Urbana.

Stroh has been in the county jail since late September in lieu of $25,000 bond on a number of charges related to him allegedly stealing a truck from a Rantoul convenience store while drunk on Sept. 22. He's due back in court on that case Nov. 12.

With the additional charge, Stroh’s total bond has increased to $275,000. He’s due back in court on the predatory criminal sexual assault of a child charge on Nov. 1.
