Monticello Railway officials leaving door open for Ghost Train return

A Monticello Railway Museum Board member said it's possible that the Ghost Train could be brought back in the future.

Earlier this month, the museum's board of directors announced there will be a one year suspension of the Ghost Train in 2014 due to the Polar Express being expanded by two weekends.  The Polar Express is now in its sixth year, while the Ghost Train started in 1975.

Monticello Railway Museum Board member John Sciutto said it was a difficult and agonizing decision to discontinue the Ghost Train next year.  He said the Polar Express has become so popular, that to meet the demand the event needed to be expanded.

Sciutto added that with Polar Express being expanded, the Ghost Train had to be suspended for next year because of logistical problems and the amount of volunteers needed to get both events ready.

The final scheduled time you will have a chance to ride the Ghost Train will be this weekend.  Sciutto said a decision on whether the Ghost Train is brought back in 2015 will be made after next year's Polar Express event.

The Monticello Railway Museum is an all-volunteer organization. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer can call 762-9011.
