Police investigate late-night shooting in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN - Police say a 23-year-old man was shot in Champaign late Wednesday night.

Champaign police were called to the 500 block of East Beardsley Avenue at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to a release from the city. They found a 23-year-old man who had been shot. He told them he had been walking in the area.

There was no indication in the release whether the victim was hospitalized or how serious his wound is.

The release said police have no description of a person or vehicle involved in the shooting. 

Police are continuing to investigate. They ask that anyone with information call the Champaign police office at 351-4545 or Champaign County Crimestoppers at 373-TIPS (373-8477). Information can be sent anonymously at www.373tips.com or via text message by sending CCTIP and the information to CRIMES (274637).
