Woman charged in cocaine case

URBANA — A 34-year-old Champaign woman accused of having cocaine and a prescription painkiller intended for sale is due back in court in December.

Danielle Whyte, who listed an address in the 2600 block of West Springfield Avenue, was arraigned Tuesday on a Class X felony charge of possession with intent to deliver cocaine within 1,000 feet of Kaufman Park in Champaign and a second less serious felony count of possession with intent to deliver less than 50 grams of hydrocodone.

Assistant State's Attorney Steve Ziegler said the charges resulted from a court-ordered search of her home by Champaign police narcotics investigators on Sept. 27. Ziegler said on that day police found more than 5 grams of cocaine, 187 hydrocodone pills and $559 cash in the house.

Whyte is being held in lieu of $50,000 bond and was ordered to return to court Dec. 3.
