Man injured in 1-vehicle crash near Royal

ROYAL — A 71-year-old man was hospitalized following a single-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in rural Royal.

According to Champaign County sheriff's Lt. Brian Mennenga, the man, who was not identified by police, was driving east on County Road 2100 N and was approaching the curve at County Road 2500 E at 3:36 p.m. Wednesday when his vehicle missed the curve and traveled through the grass.

The vehicle flipped over and landed on the east side of County Road 2500 E, according to the report.

The man was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where he was listed in critical condition Wednesday evening.

No tickets had been issued in crash as of Wednesday evening.

Mennenga said the crash continues to be investigated by the Champaign County sheriff's office.
