One charged in sexual assault in Urbana

URBANA — An Urbana man accused of sexually assaulting a teen in that city Wednesday night is due back in court December.

State's Attorney Julia Rietz said Fanfan Makenda, 31, who listed an address in the 800 block of South Division Avenue, Urbana, was charged Thursday with three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of obstructing justice.

He's being held in lieu of $100,000 bond in the felony case and was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim.

Rietz said the teen from Cunningham Children's Home on North Cunningham Avenue was given permission to leave the home about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and returned about 8 p.m.

She told police that she was walking when two men in a car stopped to ask her for directions, then forced her into their vehicle.

Rietz said the girl reported they first stopped at the Crystal View Town Homes, where one of the men went inside then came back to the car, then drove to Crystal Lake Park where they sexually assaulted her.

The teen was put out of the car and walked back home. She told Cunningham employees what happened and police were called. She was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital for an examination.

Based on the description of the car she gave police, they found Makenda at the Crystal View apartment complex just east of the park.

The teen had told police that the men had a box of condoms in the car. Makenda denied that but police found condoms in the car in the door where she said they were, Rietz said.

Rietz said police did not find a second man and that the case is still being investigated.
